I will be using volunteers in and outside my classroom beginning sometime in October. However, I wanted to give you a little heads up as to what kind of help I am looking for (outside of CHEERS).
Volunteering From Home
Being a working mom, I know it is often difficult to go in and volunteer in your child's class, but you still want to help out. Therefore, I have come up with a few volunteer opportunities that you can sign up for to do at home. I will be sending home a letter each semester that details these opportunities and provides you an opportunity to sign up.
Volunteering in the Classroom
If you are interested in helping out in the classroom, I am looking for volunteers to help out in writer's workshop and as guest readers. A link will be sent up to sign up on signupgenius soon.
Writer’s Workshop: A volunteer in writing walks around the classroom and assists students with grammar, punctuation, capitalization, spelling, etc. while the teacher conferences with individual students.
Guest Reader: A guest reader can select or have their child select a few books to read to the class for 15minutes.
School volunteers need to fill out a background check and submit it for approval. The form can be found on the district website or by clicking on the link below:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdz9LJOc7GaQGF2HIAd-snomTt_vCTtfff7yhVvxQgaT_gPtA/viewform
Please fill out the volunteer background check at least 2 weeks prior to volunteering with Salem students.
