There will be no spelling homework, reading envelopes, math fact quiz or update to the weekly blog NEXT week, due to the short holiday week.
Homework Tips
Just a friendly reminder about the weekly spelling menu . . .
Half Days of School and Conferences
On Tuesday, students will be dismissed at 11:51am for parent-teacher conferences. This is our make up day from last Tuesday's snow day. The schedule will remain the same as last Tuesday's schedule.
Please still send a water bottle and snack for your child. Please make sure you indicate ANY changes in dismissal by sending a note in your child's red folder, contacting the office, or email myself and our secretaries ([email protected], [email protected]) to ensure we all receive the message:)
Half Day Lunch
*New this year* All SLCS Elementary schools are offering sack lunches for purchase on half days. The menu can be found here: https://bit.ly/2PNgYDv
It would be helpful to communicate this with your student the morning of so they know to sign up or not signup to receive a lunch.
Reading Envelopes Next Week
Due to a short week next week, I will not be sending home reading envelopes next week. However, students are encouraged to read and keep track of books that they are reading on a separate piece of paper. Then when they get their reading envelopes next week, they can add those titles to their 100 Book Challenge Log. Students can also access Raz-Kids for leveled text to read as well.
Homework Tips
Just a friendly reminder about the weekly spelling menu . . .
- Students are to pick at least one activity from the monthly menu options to practice their 5 high frequency words, as well as, their "Thinking Words (a.k.a. word family)." If your child has more time to do more than one menu option feel free.
- Students should be generating their own list of "Thinking Words." They should be practicing at least 5, but may practice more.
- "Thinking Words" are word families. Students are not putting endings on these words, but adding a consonant or blend to the beginning of the word family to create a word. For example, if the word family is -ed, a student may generate the following list: bed, fed, sled, Ned, fled, wed, sped
- Please have the students use the paper on the back of the spelling menu instead of loose leaf.. The lines on loose leaf paper are too small for many first graders to write with correct letter formation. If you run out of room and have to use additional paper please attach it to the homework before returning it to school.
- PLEASE HAVE YOUR CHILD COMPLETE THEIR HOMEWORK IN PENCIL UNLESS OTHERWISE INDICATED. If your child does not have any pencils at home, please let me know. If homework requires coloring, PLEASE USE CRAYONS (unless otherwise specified). If your child does not have any crayons at home, please let me know. Thanks
- Homework is due on Friday (unless otherwise indicated). If your child needs more time, please let me know.
