January is a very busy month in first grade. It not only is the start of a new calendar year, but also a time for us to assess and reflect on your child's growth. Next week the students will be taking their second NWEA assessment on the computer in math and reading. You will remember that we did this the first time in September and I shared your child's results with you at conferences in November. I am excited to see how much growth your child has made since September! I plan on doing these two assessment on January 14th and 16th. Please, if possible, make sure that your child is present at school on these two days. I will share the results of their testing at the end of the month when their report cards are available.
Also during the month of January, I am busy assessing your child on their reading progress using the DRA. Because I am individually meeting with students to assess their reading, I will not be working with students in their normal reading groups. However, I will continue to do book swaps with them and send home their reading envelopes Mondays thru Thursdays.
Social Studies Assessment
Next Tuesday, the students will be taking their Unit 2 assessment on "How do we get what we need and Want?" A study guide was sent home today to help your child review. I do not need the study guide back.
